Concussion information
Please read this before registering a player. You'll be asked to confirm you have.
What a concussion is
A concussion is a brain injury caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head, or by a hit to the body that makes the head move quickly. It can happen even without losing consciousness, and even when it seems mild at the time.
Signs to watch for
- •Headache, or pressure in the head
- •Dizziness, balance problems, or feeling unsteady
- •Nausea or vomiting
- •Blurred or double vision, or sensitivity to light and noise
- •Confusion, or trouble remembering what just happened
- •Moving clumsily, or answering questions slowly
- •Mood, behaviour or personality changes
- •Just not feeling right
Our policy
- •Any player suspected of a concussion is removed from the session immediately. We don't wait for certainty.
- •They will not return to play that day, regardless of how they say they feel.
- •We will contact the parent or guardian, and the emergency contact if we can't reach you.
- •Before returning to a future session, the player should be cleared by a healthcare provider.
- •If a player loses consciousness, has a seizure, repeated vomiting, worsening headache or slurred speech, we call 911.
Why we ask you to acknowledge this
Removing a player from a session can be an unpopular decision in the moment. Reading this ahead of time means everyone knows the rule before it has to be applied, and our insurer requires that we keep a record of it.
